If you say “cat costumes” to a group of people, the chances are that you will have a wide variety of thoughts that come to mind. To some, cat costumes are cute and funny, maybe a little playful. To some, the costume is nothing but sexy, skin tight and maybe a little leather, edgy and dangerous. To others, cat costumes are furry, as close to the real deal as possible. To me, the Queen of Halloween, cat costumes can be any and all of these, and I have got to admit, I have worn each of the varieties a time or two in my day. But, for those who did not know there was a difference in the variety of cat costumes, here are some pointers to help you out.

The Cheap and Easy Way Out

Not really a full costume by any stretch of the imagination, some people will pull on a black tee shirt, some black leggings and then add a little set of kitty cat ears and possibly a tail and call it a cat costume. These people are sad. If you do not have the time to find a real costume however, then this will suffice, in a pinch. Know that if you are spotted by the Queen of Halloween or any of my most devoted followers, you will be giggled at. A lot.

Cute, Cuddly and Very Easy to Pull Together

Cat costumes do not have to be over the top in terms of glamour or expense. With just a few additions, the “cheap” costume described above becomes a perfectly nice choice. Instead of the black tee, use a leotard or other fitted top (Unless you are actually a pregnant kitty) and make sure that you add the right face makeup, namely a cute nose and little whiskers to complete the look. Still easy, still relatively inexpensive, only now you are not being laughed at.

Sexy, Sassy and Beyond

Cat costumes have evolved over the years and what worked before may not work now. Thanks to Halle Berry’s rocking body in her cat costume, the look has gone to new levels of sex appeal. From Eartha Kitt, to Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfeiffer and finally, Halle Berry, the role of Cat Woman has given women something to aspire to and to try to recreate for their own costume. Skin tight, leather and always dangerous in black, the costumes tend to be sexy enough and tight enough to be worn best by the very bold, the very brave and the very buff. Keep in mind that the tighter the costume will be, the tighter the body going into that costume should be as well.

Over the Top

And finally, there is the literal take on the cat costume- the actual cat costume. Furry, fuzzy and adorable, the person who opts for this should have a great feline affection, a great sense of balance and of course, a fan because those furry costumes can get very hot.
