It is easy to pick up a Halloween costume. One can just go out to the store and buy something that caught your fancy. Or, you can drop-by a specialty store to look for one.
However, creativity cannot be found from these commercial stores. Would you like to have one that is simply unique yet better than the average ones you have seen? Then do it yourself Halloween costumes are just the right one for you.
To give you an idea where to start, here are just some easy and fun things to wear on Halloween.
Ghost In YouBored with the same old white sheet draped over you every Halloween? Try dressing it up! Put a little lipstick around the mouth area. Put on fake lashes around slit cut for the eyes. Find plastic earrings and glue them by the ear areas. Cool long necklaces drape around the neck will make your ghost extra stylish as well. As for the boys, a bandanna around the head or any hats will give your otherwise boring ghost some character.
Tourists On VacationFor boys, wearing the typical Hawaiian shirt and shorts can pass as any tourist. As for the girls, they can wear a t-shirt (with the name of a city on it) and match it up with shorts and sandals. However, one can make this look better by putting accessories. Boys can bring along a camera sling around their necks, while girls can bring along a big transparent bag with maps, book, bikini, and sun block lotion in it. Straw hats and big luggage finish off a tourist-look. Another way to make it recognizable is to spray or paint your body with a temporary brown-colored body paint to get that tanned tourist-y look.
The Oldies lookLooking like grandma and grandpa is relatively easy and it costs you little to nothing. Just raid your grandparents attics for a good old flannel shirt or suit, a vintage cap and a cane for the boys. Girls can take a pick amongst grandmas lovely old, ruffled-style dresses. Try to find also some old stockings, oxford shoes and a vintage purse. To look really old, you can use these two old tricks on theater make-up. Dust off a little bit of baby powder or flour on your hair, and apply egg whites over your face.
Be a cereal for the dayOld boxes are also put to good use for Halloween. Find a box in your garage that is the right size for your body type. On its sides, cut holes to put through your arms. On the bottom, cut holes for your legs. Leave the top open for your head and upper body. Paint the box of any of your favorite cereal box cover. Put on some old tights, gloves and a funky wig then you are all set to have fun with your costume!
Love Mother NatureAs a way to show love to Mother Nature (and also to make use of all those dry leaves in the backyard), create your Halloween costume by using anything from the garden leaves, twigs, ferns and even flowers. Arrange and glue them up on a piece of leotard or tights. Put on a face mask of earth-tone colors, and try to stick those little bits of leaves and flowers on your face to go with the whole look. Before putting on those leotards with bunch of leaves, paint your body first with the color of nature.
There are a million ways to create costumes by just using your old materials at home. Halloween costumes do not have to be expensive. One just needs to free his or her imagination to create halloween costumes and still be the hit of a party.
