When it comes to successful seiyuus or voice over artists there have been many that graced the microphones behind anime characters. Of course, many of them lead normal lives and not like the stars, but they are among the most talented people in the industry. Seiyuus work hard to get auditions and put in hours in a part time job as well. Talent agencies scout for the best talent among male and female seiyuus. Some move on to become the best male or female seiyuu in the industry and be their own boss, demanding a price for every episode. After all, it is their voice that matters most. While singers earn royalties from CD sales, seiyuus depend on their contracts with talent agencies to earn a living.
Seiyuus are voice artist for games as well such as ero-games and ero-anime. Veteran seiyuus like Inoue Kikuko or Hayashibara Megumi are among the best seiyyus from the 70s and 80s. Over time, they managed to gain a huge fan following like Kamiya Akira. Seiyuus find contracts for anime series, and voice overs for dubbed movies and commercials. The otaku and the entertainment industry have given seiyuus their due recognition with many male seiyuus establishing a name for themselves in the industry.
Seiyuus undergo two years of basic acting training at a vocational school before they can engage themselves as a trainee in an agency for a further two to three years of acting lessons. Kamiya Akira has been in the industry for decades making his debut in 1970 with Theater Echo on Mahou no Mako-chan. He also co-starred with Kei Tomiyama in Fushigi na Merumo. He played the title character in Babel II and later took the lead role in several Super Robot anime such as Akira Hibiki in Yuusha Raideen, and Takuma Ichimonji in Wakusei Danguard Ace, among others. He was nicknamed Sakebi no Kamiya or Screaming Kamiya because he loved to shout.
Kamiya Akira played roles as diverse as pretty-boy pitcher Satoru Satonaka in Dokaben and rich and arrogant characters such as Shinnosuke Kazamatsuri in Yawara. Among his latest roles is as the lazy private detective Kogoro Mori in Detective Conan anime. His work in dubbing includes Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steel, and the Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies, two well known James Bond movies. Today, Kamiya Akira lectures at a vocational school and has passed on his talent to students like Megumi Toyoguchi, Ryoko Shintani, and Ai Shimizu.
